Top Tips: Surviving Sixth Form/College

Today I wanted to write about something a little bit different - I know the majority of my posts are beauty related, but I also like the idea of incorporating some lifestyle topics for a bit of a change too. Seeing as everyone's heading back to school at the moment, I thought it was a good time to share my tips for surviving sixth form/college. I'm half way through now, so hopefully what I've learnt so far can help some of you.

1. Use your summers wisely - I know summer has passed now, but it's still useful for next year! It depends on what course you want to do, but it always helps having a bit of work experience - whether that's interning or volunteering at a charity, and summer is a great time to do this. Obviously, it's also a time to relax and take a break - so don't spent too much time working!

2. Keep on top of everything - Staying on top of all your work and clubs etc really pays off in the long run. I know when you first start you can't really be bothered to get going, but trust me - leaving it all until the last week is way too stressful and not effective!

3. Don't stress too much about the future - In Year 12, the teachers really put pressure on you to decide what to do with your life, pick a course etc. In my opinion, you don't do much about it all until Year 13, so try and focus more on exams than stressing about what university to go to, what subject to choose - it helps to have an idea but don't think you need to decide what to do so quickly - it's okay not to know!

4. Get involved - This is something I probably should have done more of, but it really helps with personal statement writing if you've done things like gone to clubs, helped out at your school, or become a house captain. Anything works!

5. Stay positive - Although A-Levels are hard, Year 12 has been really enjoyable, and I'm excited for Year 13 and (hopefully) going to university afterwards. Generally, sixth form is the beginning of better things, so just stick it out - it gets better!

What are your tips for surviving sixth form?

  1. I done something slightly different as we don't have six form. But I'd just recommend not getting complacent in your last year before uni!

  2. These tips are great, I am only in Year 10 but I have been thinking quite a lot about college, where I want to go and what I want to do. I will bear these in mind for when I start and I hadn't even thought about work experience but I think it would be a good idea to do some :)
