Applying To Uni: Ucas, Choosing Your Course etc.

This week I officially sent off my UCAS application and I've even been lucky enough to receive a couple of offers already. If you didn't know, I've mainly applied for public relations courses, as well as a couple of more general media and communication ones too. However, I know a lot of people are still going with their applications so I thought I'd talk about the whole process and give a few tips about it all.

1. Choosing your course - exhaust all your options!
Choosing the right course is a big deal, and I know most of you will probably know or have some idea of what you want to do. Personally, I was lucky to know for quite a while what I wanted to study - but I still went ahead and looked into lots of other subjects too - I considered biology, teaching, even art! I just find it really useful to make sure you've exhausted all options, so you're 100% on what you want to apply for.

2. If you don't want to go...
If you don't want to go to uni, then don't go! I've heard some people feel pressured into going, or choosing a certain course because they've had to decide on things too fast, but if this is the case then I think you need to consider the possibility of not going, or at least taking a gap year. Don't go to uni for the sake of it!

3. Get it finished quickly if you can!
A pretty simple tip - try and fill out all your UCAS info fairly quickly and get your application sent off if you can. Don't rush into anything, but it just helps because it takes away the stress and allows you to focus more on your current studies.

4. Don't stress too much.
This is easier said than done, I know! But just remember, whilst your application is important - it's not the be all and end all. When it comes to writing your personal statement, just be yourself and don't force anything.

5. The waiting game sucks.
Not really a tip, more of a heads up. Once you get round to sending off your application, you're probably going to have to wait to get replies - and it sucks! You'll find yourself checking UCAS Track all the time, but everyone's in the same boat - and no news can be good news too.

Have you applied to uni yet? What are your tips?

  6. Great tips! I've just applied too and it's probably the most stressful thing I've ever done. The waiting game is definitely the worst part - I'm applying to medicine so I have to wait for interviews and then wait a bit longer after that!

Hmm, a tip from me would probably be to make sure that you have applied to a good range of courses with a range of entry requirements. You really don't want to end up without a place just because you applied for those out of your grade range.

    Good luck :)
